Ms. Herawaty started to learn how to play piano at the age of seven. She studied with Ms. Ester Yu, who earned her Bachelor's degree in piano performance at Peabody Conservatory, Johns Hopkins University. Since she was little, her mom had been her main intrigue to pursue music as her lifelong passion.

She then further her study with Doctor Bruce Cook who introduced her to her next teacher. Then, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Santa Clara University and worked with Professor Hans Boepple. She was awarded a music scholarship and received the Senior Award for Artistry Achievement and graduated with cum laude. Then, she continued her Master of Arts degree at San Jose State University, studying with Doctor Gwendolyn Mok. While at SJSU, she was awarded another scholarship in a graduate program. 

 

During her school years, she has worked as a staff accompanist for Diablo Valley College and Valley Christian Highschool before joining Stratford. At Stratford School, she taught for 9 years as a music teacher, and another year teaching experience with the Campbell Christian School. She is also part of the Music Teacher Association of California, and was one of the musical evaluators. Currently, she joins Valley Christian School as their Conservatory music teacher. She has been teaching many years now. She started teaching when she was pursuing her master's degree, as a part-time music teacher. And now that she has graduated, her passion has made her a full-time music instructor and pianist who will continue nurturing the love of making music and the love of helping her students to cultivate each one of their talent and interest in music. In addition, her students have received rewards from the competitions they have participated. They have also performed very well for their Certificate of Merit evaluation and have awarded with state honors. Ms. Hera reflected that seeing her students grow as a well rounded individual has been the most rewarding experience as a teacher. She is looking forward to work with many more students who will share their joys and passions of music with her. Together, she will work with her students and parents as a team to make the experience of music so unique and personal to each one.
